The votes are in: Popular Mechanics has named the Kia Niro EV their 'Car of the Year'

The Kia Niro started out as a hybrid crossover, but thanks to first-year popularity the Kia engineers went to work on the Kia Niro Plug-In Hybrid and the Kia Niro EV (electric-vehicle.) When the news came into our Dartmouth dealership, we were overjoyed - but not entirely surprised - to learn that the Kia Niro EV had earned a prestigious award from Popular Mechanics! The esteemed organization named the Kia EV its 'Car of the Year', and here's why.

For an electric vehicle to realistically be a person's only form of transportation, it needs to have a strong range, and EPA-estimates put the Kia Niro EV's range at 239 miles! That's perfect for weekly commuting from your New Bedford and Swansea homes, and you can travel around New England and beyond with the help of quick charging stations that are popping up left and right.

Designers realize that not everyone wants an alternative vehicle that screams alternative; we're looking at your Tesla and Prius! If you'd prefer to drive efficiently without bragging to the world, any of the Niro models are a perfect solution. You'll get a crossover body that blends style with athleticism, and aside from the model-name badge and plug, no one would immediately think "oh, there goes an electric vehicle!"

Until recent years, buying a hybrid or electric vehicle wasn't feasible for many American incomes, but we're thankfully seeing price drops. From the get-go, the Kia Niro has set out to be an affordable hybrid, and the Niro EV, while more expensive than the hybrid version, is still far less expensive than a Tesla.

Currently, the award-winning Kia Niro EV is only available for sale in 12 States, including Massachusetts. We usually carry the normal Kia Niro (hybrid) at our dealership, but don't be shy about coming in from Raynham or Plymouth to speak with us about buying or leasing a Kia Niro EV or a Kia Niro Plug-In Hybrid.
