2026 Kia EV9 Release Date

2026 Kia EV9 Release Date, Specifications and More

As it enters its third year of production, the 2026 Kia EV9 EV stays true to the family-friendly, three-row format that has won hearts from the beginning. The Kia EV9 is expected to be released in the second half of 2025. It will continue to come with modern styling, comfortable and functional interior design, and a claimed range of up to 304 miles in ideal weather conditions. It's available with either rear- or all-wheel drive and rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds. Here's a preview of the new 2026 Kia EV9 that will be available in our new inventory at Kia of Dartmouth in Dartmouth, MA.

What's new for 2026

Beyond the adoption of the NACS (North American Charging Standard) charging port and the introduction of the blacked-out Nightfall Edition trim,  the core EV9 models return without substantial changes for 2026. It's worth noting, however, that 2026 marks the arrival of the new EV9 GT, a dual-motor all-wheel-drive model with a projected 501 horsepower and, for the first time on any EV9, an adaptive suspension system. Equipped with dual motors, heftier brakes, and unique styling elements, the EV9 GT will be an exceptionally fast three-row battery-electric SUV.

EV Motor, Power, and Performance

The 2026 EV9 lineup will start with the rear-wheel-drive Light model, which features a single rear-mounted electric motor with 215 horsepower. The Light Long Range version is also equipped with a rear-wheel drive system. Although it adds a larger battery, the peak power drops to 201 horsepower. All-wheel-drive models have a dual-motor arrangement with a combined 379 horsepower, and an available Boost mode that raises the peak torque and provides more rapid acceleration.

The new-for-2026 high-performance GT model is expected to develop 501 horsepower from its dual-motor configuration, a 122-horsepower increase over the EV9 GT-Line's 379-horsepower output. The GT also comes with an electronic limited-slip differential to elevate traction, and that will enhance your cornering capability. Kia is aiming for a 4.3-second run up to 60 mph for the 2026 EV9 GT. You can get pre-qualified for credit in advance and save time when you visit our dealership.

Range, charging and battery life

The entry-level Light trim comes with a 76.1-kilowatt battery pack which is limited to an EPA-estimated 230 miles of driving range. The Light Long Range model and the e-AWD versions have a larger 99.8-kilowatt pack. Kia hasn't identified the capacity of the EV9 GT's battery pack, but reports indicate it will be the larger of the two currently offered unless Kia builds a third pack specifically for its high-performance model.

The Light Long Range model is rated by the EPA for 304 miles of driving per charge, while the Wind e-AWD and Land e-AWD models are limited to 280 miles. Going with the top-spec GT-line trim drops the estimated range down to 270 miles per charge. If you pay to install a Level 2 charger in your garage, it will take somewhere between six and eight hours to reach a full 100% charge. Interior highlights

The EV9 will be available in either six- or seven-passenger configurations, depending on whether the second row comes with captain's chairs or a bench. The upper trim levels will include a power-folding third row. Interior material quality is at a high level, with soft synthetic leather upholstery and unique mesh headrests. The underlying construction is nice and sturdy, adding to the refinement of a luxurious cabin. The second-row captain's chairs in the EV9 feel like the front seats and offer heating, ventilation, and even a massaging function.
